| Fremont, NH was founded in 1638 as part of Exeter.
In the 1720s and 1730s residents began to migrate toward the
southwestern corner of Fremont known as Fremont. This area was famous for
its heavy growth of high quality hardwoods. The Crown reserved the best
hardwoods for ships masts. The remaining forest was utilized by the town
for firewood and construction. Residents began to utilize the quality
hardwoods for the construction of homes and barns causing the Governor
to send Surveyor General David Dunbar to inspect the mill for illegally
cut mast trees. In 1734, the Mast Tree Riot took place. Locals rebelled
by cutting down the tall trees prior to Dunbar's arrival. They later
returned dressed as Indians ambushing and killing ten of his troops.
Today Fremont is a quiet town full of neighborhoods that contain
large residential lots. The Fremont Pizzeria is famous for exceptional
Italian dishes, pizza, desserts and low prices. If you are looking for a
family oriented community, Fremont may be the perfect for you. |
